After Padma Bhushan Mithun Chakraborty will receive the 54th Dadasaheb Phalke award.

Information & Broadcasting minister Ashwani Vaishnaw announced the big honour for the Bollywood superstar Mithun Chakraborty on X on in last day of September. The 74th year old actor Mithun Chakraborty known as Mithun da will receive the 54th Dada Saheb Phalke award at the 70th National Filmfare award on 8th October, 2024.

Mithun Chakraborty also was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour started his remarkable journey from his debut film “Mirgayaa” directed by Mrinal Sen. He wins the National award for his character in this film. He got the tag of Disco dancer for his tremendous dancing moves in the film of Disco Dancer (1982) which was a huge box office success. So many dialogues from his many films still today used for entertainment. A true inspiration for the generations.

Mithun da express his feelings after the announcement to the agency ANI “I have no language to express how I feel now, na main haas sakta hoon na khushi main ro sakta hoon”. He also added “I come from the street of Kolkata, I have risen from footpath. A boy form such a place winning such honour I could not have imagined this, I am extremely happy, I dedicated this to my family and my friends across the world”. 

What is Dadasaheb Phalke award?

The Dadasaheb Phalke award is India’s top most award in the field of film industry which was started in 1969 in honour of Dada Saheb Phalke (1870-1944) who is known as “the father of Indian cinema”, he directed India’s first full-length feature film Raja Harishchandra. The organisation set up by Ministry of  Information & Broadcasting. The first recipient of the award was actress Devika Rani who widely acknowledged as “the first lady of Indian cinema”.
